The students in Room 2 are learning to participate in small group work or play with minimum support

The boys enjoyed playing with play dough.  This was not a set activity.  One student was playing with the play dough and the others gravitated towards the table.  Connor was a delight he searched for something to give Cody to put into his play dough.  It is lovely watching the boys gel as a group.

Topic - Sea Creatures

We have been doing lots of art while we have been learning about many different sea creatures.  We have learnt lots about the Giant octopus.  They live for about three years.  After the female lays her eggs she has to stay with them.  She needs to cover them and defend them against would-be predators. She needs to gently waft currents over them so they get a constant supply of fresh, oxygenated water. And she does this continuously, never leaving and never eating.  Octopuses are masters of camouflage that can change their shape, colour and texture to perfectly blend into their environment.   We have really enjoyed learning about Giant octopus.

Topic - Sea Creatures

We have been learning about Puffer fish.  We are amazed by what they can do.  Sometimes they make themselves bigger by sucking in water and sometimes by sucking in air.  They do this so that predators don't eat them.  We think that they are very cute!

Room 2 went to see a magic show

We were lucky to see a magic show on Monday this week.  We were amazed when fire came out of a box and then just stopped.  The magician made some colourful scarves come out of a pot and a bunch of flowers out of a stick. Then he put a toy rabbit into a box and just like magic a real one came out.  Cody from our room even got to go up and help him with a trick.  The magician did lots of cool tricks.  We all clapped.  All of out friends from Kowhai were there too.  They clapped too.
